Home Service Plus® (HSP) repair plans eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for qualified repairs on covered appliances - like furnaces, boilers, water heaters and ranges  - for a low monthly fee.

You’ll pay $0 for covered parts and labor and have no deductible or trip charges.

Here are some tips on how you can get more out of an HSP repair plan.

Understand your plan

An important place to start with your HSP repair plan is to understand what is and isn’t covered, from appliances, parts and types of repair.

Know what is covered

Read your plan carefully to understand the specifics:

  • Appliances covered - different plans cover a different list of appliances and home systems. For instance, as our base coverage option, the Core Heating Plan covers your water heater and your boiler or furnace, while other plans cover more appliances.

  • Parts covered - a list of covered parts is included on the terms and conditions page of each plan.

  • Coverage period - plan coverage lasts for one year, so it’s important to check what date you purchased your plan. Our repair plans auto-renew but if you decide to cancel before the year is through you will be required to pay for the difference of any service calls you received less the payments you have already made on your contract.

  • Take your plan with you - your appliances are still covered under your plan if you move during the coverage period to an address within HSP’s service area.

Learn what isn’t covered

It’s also important to understand what isn’t covered in your repair plan to know how to make it work best for you:

  • Terms and conditions - the best place to start is reading the specific terms and conditions for your plan. You can find them at the following links for each plan:
  • Additional coverage - after reading the terms and conditions, you may decide that you need additional coverage based on your needs and appliances.

Fulfill your obligations

Per the terms and conditions, there are certain requirements on your part, such as:

  • Starting up to code - all covered appliances and home systems must be in working condition and up to code at the start of the plan coverage.
  • Safe access - repair technicians must have safe access to the appliance that needs repairing, which means making sure any obstacles or hazards that need to be removed before the technician arrives have been cleared.
  • Automatic renewal - annual repair plans automatically renew at the end of the term, so if you need to make a change to a different plan or you decide to cancel at the end of the contract period, be sure to let us know.

Schedule regular maintenance

Regular maintenance is recommended to maintain appliance performance, even with an HSP repair plan. That’s why we encourage regular professional maintenance for your appliances. This can help improve appliance performance and efficiency and help to extend the life of your appliances.

HSP offers a Maintenance Plan to help you save money instead of paying for individual maintenance services, including maintenance on your heating and cooling equipment twice during the year.

Keep records

Keeping a file of all repairs and services you’ve received under your plan can be a very helpful tool. This can help you track the history of your appliances for your own knowledge.

Know what to do when you need to schedule service

Be familiar with the process of scheduling service before you have an appliance that needs servicing. There are several ways you can be prepared ahead of time:

  • Don’t wait - HSP has 24/7 support so you can schedule service as early as possible.
  • Enroll in My Account - you need to be enrolled in My Account to schedule, review or cancel an appointment online. Don’t wait until a breakdown happens to set this up.  See more here
  • Save the number - make a new contact in your phone with the number needed to schedule appointments.
  • Bookmark us - save the schedule service URL as a bookmark in your web browser.

Review and customize your coverage

Keeping stock of which of your appliances and home systems are covered, as well as the age and conditions of your appliances, will help you get the most out of your repair plan. Different situations will be suited to different plan types.

  • Not covered - if you have had problems with an appliance that isn’t covered under your current plan, you may want to upgrade to a different plan with more coverage.
  • Customization - you can also customize your HSP plan, for example adding an additional appliance to the Basic Repair Plan, though if you add three or more appliances you should consider switching to the Total Repair Plan.
  • New appliances - if you have a brand new appliance, you may not need as much coverage, and can adjust accordingly.
  • Old appliances - if your appliances are nearing the end of their life, consider the HSP Replacement Plan, an add-on to our repair plans that can give you additional peace of mind when your older appliances become non-repairable.
