It's an exciting, voluntary energy management program that allows you to stay cool and comfortable while saving energy and money! It allows CenterPoint Energy to better manage electricity demand during summer months. You can receive a one-time $75 bill credit, plus a $5 credit on your monthly June-September electric bills after you enroll.

How to enroll

There are a couple of ways to enroll in Smart Cycle to start receiving bill credits. If you need a new device or need to enroll an already purchased device, visit our thermostat rewards page to start enrolling your device.

You can also enroll simply by following instructions on your devices as you install it. This program might be called something else depending on the manufacturer. For example, Google Nest products call it Rush Hour Rewards and Ecobee calls it Community Energy Savings.

What to expect

When summer temperatures climb, demand for electricity increases. The Smart Cycle program is designed to help reduce peak demand and can help control costs for customer's long term.

This program is great for all residential customers to take part in. Most of these events will happen during May through September and will happen in the midafternoon through the early evening. Before all events we will precool your home and then raise the temperature up by four degrees above the originally thermostat setting. Most events will take place in the afternoon to early evening hours, so if you are away from your home during those hours you may never notice an event was called.

Have company coming over during event? No problem, you are in complete control over your settings. Just go into your thermostat app or the thermostat itself and reset the program to the desired comfort level.
