Natural gas main work

This week, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will finish replacing the project’s natural gas mains.

Natural gas service line and meter work

A separate Michels Corporation crew has been following the main crew’s route to move inside meters outside by appointment and to replace and/or reconnect the service lines to the new mains.

The crew has finished the service line and meter work on the following streets: Crescent Ridge Road, Sylvan Road S., Mayflower Avenue, Mayflower Circle, Mayflower Place, Bent Tree Lane, Bent Tree Road, Bent Tree Circle, Bent Tree Way, Twelve Oaks Drive, and Meadow Lane.

The remaining streets will have the service line and meter work done in the weeks of June 12 and 19: Golden Acres Drive, Westridge Lane, Westridge Road, and Westridge Circle.

By approximately Thursday, June 22, the crew plans to complete the natural gas work. This includes putting the existing natural gas mains out of service.

Restoration

After the service line and meter work, the gas crew will backfill the excavated areas with dirt or gravel. This will be temporary before the restoration crew comes.

We anticipate that several weeks after the gas work is done, a crew from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. On boulevards and lawns, they will refill the areas with black dirt, grass seed, and netting that degrades over about four months. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the netting. For photo examples, please see our Restoration Practices page.

A crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, replaced the main on Evas Drive and Sylvan Place and have been replacing the main on Sylvan Road S., heading south. After Memorial Day, they will have arrived at Westridge Road.

For approximately two weeks beginning Thursday, June 1, they plan to close the intersection of Westridge Road and Cedar Lake Road to replace the gas main.

A second Michels Corporation crew will begin moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing and/or reconnecting the service lines to the new main. For in-to-out meter moves, the crews will make two- to three-hour appointments with residents. We advise that you mark any lines you installed in your yard.

The gas crews will put in temporary backfill on the excavated areas until the restoration crew arrives. Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will follow to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Since Q3 Contracting works throughout CenterPoint Energy’s service territory in Minnesota and since they are permanently restoring the areas affected by the gas crews’ work last fall, the crews expect to restore this neighborhood within 3 to 6 weeks of the gas work being complete in an area.

We thank you for your patience.

For several months beginning Monday, April 24, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will resume work on select streets in Minnetonka near Mayflower Park. Traffic impacts may include parking and lane closures.

The following roads will have work done on the mains, service lines, and meters: Sylvan Road S. from Bent Tree Lane to Orchard Avenue W.; the cul-de-sacs of Evans Drive, Sylvan Place, Westridge Circle, and Westridge Lane; Westridge Road from Crescent Ridge Road to Cedar Lake Road; Meadow Lane W. from Westridge Road to 12121 Meadow Lane W.; Orchard Avenue W. from Sylvan Road S. to 12121 Orchard Avenue W.; and Golden Acre Drive from Sylvan Road S. to 12111 Golden Acre Drive.

The following roads had new mains last year and will have work on the service lines and meters this year: Bent Tree Lane from Crescent Ridge Road to Sylvan Road S.; Crescent Ridge Road from Sylvan Road S. to the cu-de-sac at Bent Tree Lane; Bent Tree Road from Plymouth Road S. to Crescent Ridge Road; the following cul-de-sacs: Bent Tree Way, Twelve Oaks Drive, Bent Tree Circle, Mayflower Place, and Mayflower Circle; Mayflower Avenue from Mayflower Place to Orchard Avenue W. and from Golden Acre Drive to Northwood Avenue; and Golden Acre Drive from Mayflower Avenue to 12101 Golden Acre Drive.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors are progressing on the project. Two crews from Michels Corporation have been replacing the project’s natural gas mains. By Monday, October 31, they plan to have replaced the mains along the following streets: Twelve Oaks Drive, Bent Tree Road, Bent Tree Lane, Bent Tree Way, Bent Tree Circle, Crescent Ridge Road, Sylvan Road, Mayflower Avenue, Mayflower Place, Mayflower Circle, Tapestry Lane.

By Monday, October 31, Q3 Contracting plans to restore the hard surfaces affected by this year’s gas work. After October 31, they will restore the boulevards and lawns affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

Although they plan to permanently restore them, the crews will apply winter erosion control if temperatures aren’t conducive for planting grass. Any holes created by CenterPoint Energy’s crews in boulevards during construction will be backfilled with dirt and protected with matting. In spring, the crews will return to place new black dirt and grass seed in these areas.

In spring 2023, the crews will return to replace the last of the project’s mains, connect the service lines to the new mains, and move inside meters outside. We appreciate your patience and wish you a good season.

This week, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, began replacing the natural gas main under the east boulevard of Mayflower Avenue between Cedar Lake Road and Northwood Avenue. They anticipate that the main replacement on this road will take approximately two weeks. During this time, parking will be restricted on the east side of Mayflower Avenue in this area.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

Beginning in the week of October 10, lasting into November, pausing in the winter, and resuming in spring 2023, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minnetonka along select streets near Mayflower Park. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas mains, connect the natural gas service lines to the new mains, and move any inside meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. Depending on the crews’ progress and the weather, the crews may replace the mains this year and may work on the service lines and meters next year.

Parking and sidewalk closures may occur. The anticipated road closures are on Bent Tree Road and on Westridge Road at Cedar Lake Road. The closure on Westridge Road will extend for approximately 35 feet north of Cedar Lake Road; it will not obstruct residents’ driveways. Parking will be limited for approximately 140 feet north of Cedar Lake Road.

Areas affected by our work will be restored to their original condition. Depending on the weather, Q3 Contracting may put down temporary restoration, such as asphalt on previously concrete surfaces and winter erosion control on boulevards and lawns, before returning in 2023 to permanently restore these areas.

What if I have an inside gas meter?

The customer will receive a CenterPoint Energy postcard in the mail typically within one or two weeks prior to the day when the Michels Corporation crews will perform the work. The crews will have CenterPoint Energy-authorized photo IDs stating that they are employees of Michels Corporation.

After the customer receives the postcard, the foreman will arrive at the customer’s house to schedule an appointment that typically meets with the customer’s schedule. If the customer isn’t home when they arrives, he will leave a door tag with his contact information to schedule an appointment with him.

Customers are advised to set aside a two- to four-hour time frame for the inside-to-outside gas meter move. They are also advised to mark their privately-installed utilities such as dog fences or sprinklers. Marking can be accomplished with tools such as spray paint or utility flags. The foreman will access the natural gas meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated.

Customers with outside meters will be notified prior to the replacement or connection of the service lines to the new mains. Areas affected by our work will be restored to their original condition.

What should I expect during permanent soft surface restoration?

On the soft surfaces such as boulevards and lawns, various erosion control measures keep the restored area moist, hold seed in the soil, and enhance seed germination. If an erosion blanket is needed it is secured in place with staples. The mesh is a wood fiber that will completely degrade. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.
