Credit River - County Road 27 - Project Updates

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors, Michels Corporation and Q3 Contracting, anticipate finishing the 2022 portion of the project’s work in late December. This includes replacing the last of the project’s natural gas lines and putting down winter erosion control on the areas affected by construction. The winter erosion control may consist of temporary asphalt on areas that were previously concrete, and hydromulch or straw netting on boulevards and lawns. In 2023, Q3 Contracting will return for permanent restoration. We appreciate your patience and wish you a great holiday season.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

From July into late October or early November 2022, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in the City of Credit River. While Michels Corporation will install a natural gas steel main within city and county rights of way, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. This project will reinforce CenterPoint Energy’s southern territory in Minnesota for current and future customers. Work will take place along the following streets:


County Road 27 (Texas Avenue) from 154th Street to County Road 21 (Richard J. Ames Memorial Highway) and from Murphy Lake Boulevard to 196th Street E.; Richard J. Ames Memorial Highway from County Road 27 to Murphy Lake Boulevard; and Murphy Lake Boulevard from County Road 21 to County Road 27.

What are the traffic impacts?

Since the crews weld the pieces of the pipe together, the steel main replacement requires open excavation. Time spent on each block will vary due to the size of the block, the steel offsets, the restoration preparation, and the weather. Restoration will follow the steel main work.


During this time, there will be lane and road closures to ensure the safety of the public and crews during construction. Local resident access to properties will be maintained.

What should I expect during soft surface restoration?

On the soft surfaces such as boulevards and lawns, various erosion control measures keep the restored area moist, hold seed in the soil, and enhance seed germination. If an erosion blanket is needed it is secured in place with staples. The mesh is a wood fiber that will completely degrade. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.
