As long as your water gets hot when you need it, you probably don’t think about your water heater until it stops working. However, replacing even a working water heater with a new, more efficient heat pump water heater (HPWH) could save you energy and money with incentives from CenterPoint Energy!
Incentives can vary depending on selected equipment. We encourage you to ask your contractors about what incentives are available.
Why upgrade?
Did you know that your home's second largest energy user is the water heater? An energy-efficient HPWH can save a household of four approximately $550 per year on electric bills compared to a standard electric water heater. Over the lifetime of a HPWH, assuming an average lifespan of 10.2 years, that is approximately $5,610 in savings.
You may save even more as a homeowner if you qualify for a 30% federal tax credit (up to $2,000 per year) on the cost of a HPWH, plus installation. Learn more about this tax credit on the ENERGY STAR® site.
How it works
Heat pumps are significantly more energy efficient than standard hot water heaters because they heat water when you need it. Instead of using energy to produce new heat, they capture existing ambient warmth in the air and transfer it to the water.

Eligibility
Incentives are available to customers within CenterPoint Energy’s Houston electric service territory (excluding apartments) who:
