Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will finish the project’s natural gas work by Friday, June 18. This includes connecting the natural gas service lines to the new mains, connecting the new mains to the existing intersecting ones, and putting the existing mains out of service.
Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will follow to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work, including hard and soft surfaces. On the soft surfaces such as boulevards and lawns, various erosion control measures keep the restored area moist, hold seed in the soil, and enhance seed germination. If an erosion blanket is needed it is secured in place with staples. The mesh is a wood fiber that will completely degrade. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.
Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, began replacing the project’s natural gas mains on Copperwood Lane. This week the crews plan to replace the main on Copperwood Lane and begin on Bay Lane. In the weeks of May 24 and 31, they plan to begin the main replacements on Bay Street, Bay Circle, Charmy Downs, Grays Bay Boulevard, and Groveland School Road. The final street to have the main replacement is Beechwood Avenue.
The crews have flaggers on site to help direct traffic. For most of the project’s duration, lane shifts will occur. When the crews work on Groveland School Road at Minnetonka Boulevard, they will close Groveland School Road for a few hundred feet without closing entrances to driveways or parking lots. Detour signs will lead drivers to Minnetonka Boulevard, County Road 101 and Bay Lane.
Beginning May 17 and lasting into the summer of 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minnetonka along the following streets: Groveland School Road between Minnetonka Boulevard and Bay Lane; Beechwood Avenue, Charmy Downs, and Copperwood Lane; Grays Bay Boulevard between Bay Street and Beechwood Avenue; and Bay Street, Bay Circle and Bay Lane.
While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main, connect the natural gas service lines to the new main, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. During this time, lane or parking closures may occur.
