Minneapolis - Portland Ave. S. from 60th to 67th Streets E. - Project Updates

For the weeks of May 17 and 24, crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the second of the project’s two natural gas mains. During these weeks, the crews will work in the west southbound lanes of Portland Avenue S. between 60th and 61st Streets E. They will also close 61st Street E. at Portland Avenue S. Detour signs will lead through traffic to 60th Street E. and 5th Avenue S. Parking will be restricted on Portland Avenue S. and half a block of 61st Street E.

Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, replaced the first of the project’s two natural gas mains and have connected the project’s natural gas service lines on Portland Avenue S. Crews from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will follow Michels Corporation’s route, restoring the areas affected by the crews’ construction.

Traffic Impacts

The crews will work on one side of Portland Ave. S. at a time. Parking closures will occur where active construction is happening. The crews will replace the natural gas mains on each side of the 6000 block of Portland Ave. S. The crews will replace and/or connect natural gas service lines on all the project’s blocks, excluding the 6100 block.

Project Description

Beginning on April 29 and lasting into summer 2021, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Minneapolis along Portland Ave. S. between 60th and 67th Streets E., excluding the 6100 block. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas mains, connect the natural gas service lines to the new mains, and move any inside residential meters outside, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.
