Crews from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, have been moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing some natural gas service lines throughout CenterPoint Energy’s project in the Lynnhurst Neighborhood.

Most of the meter and service line work has been done on Fremont Avenue S. between 46th Street W. and 51st Street W. Although the crews have been working primarily on the following streets and blocks, they are continuing to work throughout the project’s routes as they coordinate with residents’ schedules:

Aldrich Avenue S. between 47th Street W. and 50th Street W.; Bryant Avenue S. between 48th Street W. and 49th Street W. and nearby blocks; Colfax Avenue S. between 46th Street W. and 47th Street W.; and Emerson Avenue S. between 46th Street W. and 48th Street W.

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, have finished the natural gas work in the Lynnhurst Neighborhood project. This included moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing some service lines as needed.

Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, follows to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work, typically a few weeks after the natural gas work is done. For the month of May, they are working on the areas affected not only by this spring’s gas work but also by last fall and winter’s gas work. The areas of all this work are throughout CenterPoint Energy’s service territory in Minnesota.

Residents should see temporary backfill such as gravel or dirt on excavations. Hard surfaces such as sidewalks will be restored to their original condition. Soft surfaces such as boulevards and lawns will receive black dirt, grass seed, and netting that degrades over about four months. If any utility flags are in your yard, we ask that they remain there until after the restoration is done.

Several crews are continuing to schedule appointments to move inside meters outside, and they are replacing some natural gas service lines. This week and next, here’s where the crews are and plan to keep working:

5000 block of Bryant Avenue S.; 4800 block of Colfax Avenue S.; 4800 block of Emerson Avenue S.; 4900 and 5000 blocks of Fremont Avenue S.; and 5000 block of Girard Avenue S.

This week, the crew plans to bore a small-diameter natural gas main under the southern sidewalk of 48th Street W. just east of Emerson Avenue S. and under the northern sidewalk of 48th Street W. between Bryant and Lyndale Avenues S. When the crew will install the new main, they will close the sidewalk where the main will be replaced. They will close parking on both sides of 48th Street W. Traffic will remain open.

This week, four other crews will begin on the 4500 blocks of Bryant Avenue S. and Dupont Avenue S. and the 5000 block of Girard Avenue S., working north.

What will CenterPoint Energy do in 2024?

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors are finishing CenterPoint Energy’s project on 50th Street W. in the Lynnhurst Neighborhood. A crew from Michels Corporation finished replacing the project’s natural gas lines. This included the mains, service lines, and meters. Q3 Contracting will follow to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

After the service line and meter work, the gas crew will backfill the excavated areas with dirt or gravel. This will be temporary before the restoration crew comes. On boulevards and lawns, they will refill the areas with black dirt, grass seed, and netting made of wood fiber that degrades over about four months. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the netting.

We hope to minimize the disruption as much as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we replace our infrastructure. We wish you a great season!

What will CenterPoint Energy do in 2023?

As of April 6, 2023, there will be two projects in 2023 in the Lynnhurst Neighborhood, performed by CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors. For one project, crews will work on select intersections along 50th Street W. between Abbott and Lyndale Avenues S. This will last from Thursday, April 13 into late May. It will include replacing a natural gas main, connecting service lines to the new main, and moving inside meters outside.

For another project, crews will work on select streets between 46th Street W. and Minnehaha Parkway and between Minnehaha Parkway and Lyndale Avenue. This will last for several months this year; the timing is to be determined. It will include replacement of some service lines and moving inside meters outside.

Equix Integrity will update our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. Michels Corporation will perform the gas work on 50th St. W. A natural gas contractor will be determined for the remaining meter and service line work in the neighborhood. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by the gas work. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
