CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, replaced the project’s natural gas main. By tomorrow, the final natural gas work will be done. This includes connecting the last of the natural gas service lines to the new main and putting the existing natural gas main out of service. By Friday, November 6, the crews will have restored the road and removed the lane closures.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, have closed one southbound lane of traffic on Brooklyn Boulevard from Admiral Lane to 63rd Avenue N. Since the natural gas main has been replaced, the crews are connecting the service lines to the new main. The natural gas work is expected to last until November 20 with restoration to follow.

This year, if the weather isn’t conducive for permanent restoration, Q3 Contracting will temporarily restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work with winter erosion control. In 2021, these areas will be permanently restored.

Traffic Impacts

In areas of active construction, the crews will close one lane and the sidewalk heading southbound on Brooklyn Blvd. On the side streets, the crews will have a partial or full closure at Brooklyn Blvd. for limited times. These restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Local access will be maintained.

Project Description

From early October to late November 2020, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will perform work in Brooklyn Center on Brooklyn Boulevard between 60th and 65th Avenues N. and on 62nd, Halifax and 65th Avenues N. just west of Brooklyn Boulevard. While Michels Corporation will replace the natural gas main and connect the service lines to the new main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

CenterPoint Energy’s work will happen in preparation for Hennepin County’s and the City of Brooklyn Center’s 2021 road reconstruction project. This year, if the weather isn’t conducive for permanent restoration, Q3 Contracting will temporarily restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work with winter erosion control materials. In 2021, these areas will be permanently restored.
