​​Service Deposit Options

We’ll waive your initial security deposit if you provide one of the following documents at least three (3) days before the deposit is due.

Guaranty Agreement

We will accept a Guaranty Agreement signed by another CenterPoint Energy customer who will guarantee your deposit. The guarantor must:

  • ​Be a CenterPoint Energy customer for at least 12 consecutive months.
  • Have a good credit rating with us.

Credit Reference Letter

You can also provide a credit reference letter from another natural gas or electric company. Your letter of credit must show:

  • ​No more than two late payments.
  • No returned checks.
  • No disconnection orders for nonpayment during the last 12 consecutive months.

Getting Your Deposit Waived

  • Email us your guarantor’s name, CenterPoint Energy account and contact information, and we’ll send them the guaranty agreement.
  • Your letter of credit can be emailed, faxed to 713-207-4224 or mailed to:

Once your document is received, the deposit requirement will be removed from your account.

Getting Your Deposit Refunded

We will gladly credit the funds to your account after you make 12 consecutive months of full payments on or before the due dates.

If you stop service​, please give us a forwarding address so your deposit can be mailed to you.
