Are you ready to get a jump-start on your professional career? CenterPoint Energy's undergraduate internship program gives you a break from the classroom and provides you with real world experience. CenterPoint Energy targets students with majors in accounting, finance and business management.
Intern Program Requirements
A student must meet these requirements to be eligible for our intern/co-op program:
Must be enrolled as a full-time (12 hours) student at an accredited university or college
Field of study is relevant to position for which the student applied
Must be in good academic standing; minimum 3.0/4.0 preferred
Junior or senior standing preferred
Must provide documentation of proof to work in the United States
Types of Business Internships
Accounting
Corporate - Efficiently and accurately analyzes information. Collects and cross-references supporting documentation to prepare accounting schedules, documents, reports and/or journal entries.
Financial - Reconciles account activity and resolves discrepancies. Interfaces in a variety of forums to obtain or provide financial/accounting information. Provides information (written or oral) for internal and external purposes.
Corporate Tax - Prepares monthly and quarterly accrual calculations as well as federal income tax returns. Also compiles quarterly Sarbanes-Oxley data for testing use.
Finance
Audit - Compiles spreadsheets, audit notes and analysis which meet established standard policy requirements and procedures. Attends meetings to compile financial/operational information from the audit client.
Strategic Planning - Responsible for planning and allocating resources for the company.
Human Resources
College Recruiting - Assists in various projects specific to recruiting and retaining employees. Continually evaluates effectiveness of the college program Web site. May assist in establishing new college recruiting programs.
Disability Management - Responsible for filing medical surveillance documents that have been retrieved from Gas Operations and Pipelines. Helps to track Family Medical Leave Absence (FMLA) cases.
Communications/Political Science
Communications - Two internships available. Graphics intern provides graphic support to Corporate Communications group and works with art directors on various print and web projects. Corporate Communications intern writes, revises and works with production of internal publications. Provides general assistance to project managers.
Political Science - Regulatory relations position creates and maintains databases to support regulatory activities. Review, researches and prepares regulatory documents.
