Building energy reliability and resiliency in our communities
Your daily routine is important, and whether you think about it often or not, you depend on the services CenterPoint Energy provides. The Greater Houston region’s experience with disastrous weather events emphasizes the need to improve the reliability of our electric system. We have the responsibility of strengthening this system to build a stronger, smarter and more adaptable grid to enhance reliability and resiliency to severe weather events and other threats, thereby improving the energy you need.

There are few, if any, locations in the United States at greater risk of substantial impacts from climate change and severe weather events than Harris County, Texas, which lies at the heart of CenterPoint Energy’s Houston electric service territory. Harris County is identified as high risk because it is projected to have the most negative future impacts across several socioeconomic metrics.1 Harris County’s particular vulnerabilities for flooding and severe storms highlight the critical need for weatherization, energy resilience and flood control in the Houston area.
We're committed to providing a more reliable energy future.
On March 6, 2024, CenterPoint Energy’s Houston electric transmission and distribution business filed an application with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and municipal regulatory authorities requesting an adjustment to base rates and charges through a process known as a base rate case.
Our service territory covers about 5,000-square-miles across Houston and surrounding communities and serves approximately 2.8 million metered customers across its electric system — nearly 300,000 more metered customers than when CenterPoint filed its previous rate case in 2019. Since then, to help meet the Greater Houston region’s ever-increasing electric demands, we have invested more than $6 billion in creating a stronger, smarter, more resilient and adaptable grid.
As our city continues to grow and evolve, we are working to meet the area’s ever-increasing electric demands. The approval of this request will enable CenterPoint to continue delivering the safe, reliable and resilient service the Greater Houston area depends on.
